Amazing Book

This is an excellent book. I have previously purchased another book by Hamza Yusuf called Diseases of the Heart. This book follows a similar theme but this is a masterpiece by Ghazali. Anyone who wants to understand the true meaning of islam and its teachings--this is the book.

Beautiful Al Ghazali

Al Ghazali, a great Iman-turned-Sufi, is almost the perfect blend of rational and straightforward teachings and mystical transmissions. This book is a great treatise on the heart/soul and the nafs that either serve as destroyers of the path or helpers on the path (depending upon one's relationship to them). I have found it to be surprisingly approachable and understandable, with enough mysticism and layers to appeal to the advanced seeker. I highly recommend it.

Unless you are lucky enough to enroll at a course in zaytuna.... why not just read through this man's Genius... one of many books that make up the set, it is a must for every muslim home... so great is the philosophy of imam al ghazali, the west bothered to translate it to learn from it. Read also the book of afterlife....

About the Author

The #1 Indispensible Teaching Book

Simply put: This book covers all the bases. If you are a new teacher stressing out, this book is a must. If you are a veteran teacher searching for that spark you had a few years ago, this book is the answer. For whatever reason, colleges do a really poor job preparing this country's soon-to-be teachers. All I remember learning about in my EDU classes were countless theories and how to write five-page lesson plans.

Once I started teaching I quickly realized that my college professors didn't prepare me for the realities of teaching. (All of you veterans out there know exactly what I am talking about.) Anyhow, if you are looking to be more successful in the classroom, at any point in your career, pay the $20 and if this book takes away just one headache during your next month of teaching then it was worth it.

There are better books, I hope

I had to read this book for a classroom management class for my teaching degree and had a hard time getting through it. There is a lot of practical advice that might work, but it's buried in too many stories. Plus, Jones' tone is very arrogant and condescending. The only thing I really got out of it was the explanation of how PAT works, and then he started picking on a hypothetical kid named Larry. There are better books, I hope.

Classroom Magic

This is the best book on classroom management I have read. It is filled with humorous, real classroom examples that every teacher will recognize. There are plenty of ideas that can be used immediately. They are not labor intensive and they can be adapted for a variety of subjects and age groups. You can modify difficult behavior and keep your sense of humor. I teach middle school math. I moved a few desks, changed my lesson order a little, changed how I answered questions and my class is more productive. This common sense approach to classroom discipline is just the kind of book a busy teacher needs. When class runs smoothly, teaching is more fun for both the teacher and the students; this book will make that easier to achieve.

About the Author

Salvatore Iannace graduated in chemical engineering (1988) and received his Ph.D (1994) from the University of Naples "Federico II," Napoli, Italy. He is the director of the Institute for Macromolecular Studies of the National Research Council of Italy. His principal research interests lie in the fields of biodegradable and sustainable multicomponent and multi-scale foams with designed structural and functional properties. He has published numerous articles and conference papers, 18 book chapters, and four patents. Iannace is also a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Cellular Plastics.

Chul B. Park received his Ph.D from MIT in 1993. He holds the Canada Research Chair in Microcellular Plastics at the University of Toronto, and is the founder of the Microcellular Plastics Manufacturing Laboratory and the Centre for Industrial Application of Microcellular Plastics. Dr. Park is a fellow of three academies: the Royal Society of Canada, Canadian Academy of Engineering, and Korean Academy of Science and Technology. He is also a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Institute of Canada, and the Society of Plastics Engineers.

A well researched documentary made very interesting to all by a talented author!

As a dedicated horsewoman, the author's painstaking research gave great insight into the racehorse world of the period.It is both interesting and informative. This is a book that you won't want to put down once you start reading. This is something that we wish could be said for all documentaries.

Puts you in the middle of the 19th century race track!

For the first time a professional historian, who writes wonderfully, and seems to know horses first-hand, has produced a book length study of the story of America's first "national pastime" - Thoroughbred Racing. Inside these pages is a detailed portrait of the micro-world of the stable, plantation, and the race track - with a focus on the relations between the the owner/masters, to the slaves, and later freed-men, who cared for and managed every aspect of their prized assets. Race Horse Men is a great accomplishment of scholarship and storytelling.

A story that needs to be told. Today when I watch the Kentucky Derby I will be thinking about the forgotten African American race horse men and their contribution to our culture. Author's research of the subject is incredible.
